Can a first person shooter engine be transformed into a non-violent educational game?

From a developer's perspective, what are the primary differences between playing and learning?


In the Spring of 2003, Dr Bradley Greenberg show the initial results of a study concerning children and games. It appeared that children enjoyed being challenged in areas in which they felt skilled or good. He then discussed the value of games and education.

There is subtle conflict between these statements, one that inspired this paper and project.
