Artists in Residence International, Inc. presents

Bastien Desfriches Doria: Scènes de Genre

Opening Reception: Saturday, May 31 from 6-8pm, artist talk at 7:00pm

You are cordially invited to join friends and patrons of Artists in
Residence International in welcoming French-born artist Bastien Desfriches Doria to Atlanta for the completion of his newest
series of work Scènes de Genre. Bastien's unique style and technical mastery promise to make this exhibition a must see!!

AIRI is honored to present Scènes de Genre, a series of large-scale photographs by French born artist and educator Bastien Desfriches Doria. Bastien is the recipient of the 2007 AIRI
Artist-in-Residence Award, a 3-week residency stay and exhibition in Atlanta. This show will be the first installment of his newest series of photographs, featuring work shot at various
locations throughout the metro area during his residency.

Batien's prior series of large-scale photographic portraits, titled
Mammal Thoughts, was featured in the recent TransATLantic 2007: sensibility, seduction & self-reflection exhibition at Eyedrum last December. In Scènes de Genre, he continues to explore bodily identity and philosophical self-reflection, while shifting his focus from a cogitative perspective to a collective focus of mediative mass-reflection.

Bastien is Assistant Professor of Photography & Digital Imaging at Governors State University in University Park, IL near Chicago. He was born in 1974 in Paris, France and attended the Universite RENNES, earning degrees in both Philosophy and Information & Communication Sciences. He then
came to the Unites States and earned both his B.A. and M.F.A. in
photography at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. In 2006 he was awarded a MFA Research/Creative Grant from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Bastien's work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally,
including at the CROUS Gallery in Rennes, France, the D'Zuckerfabrick Gallery in Enns, Austria,
Western Oregon University, Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery in Atlanta and numerous galleries in the Chicago area.
