DREKKA performs heavily experimental, cinematic soundtracks to films unmade where the accompanying images are unique to each listener; stylistically and empathetically similar to the soundtracks of Tarkovsky's later films or the more abstract works of Coil and Cindytalk.
DREKKA's sound is hushed, cinematic, ambient, ethereal and industrial... at times discordant and menacing, more often communicative and inviting. It is performed at a moderate volume, perfect for any small setting, including homes, gallery spaces, stores... music for those who enjoy filling in the gaps and the imagery that accompanies it.
Deeply felt inspiration is drawn from such luminaries as CINDYTALK, COIL, FLYING SAUCER ATTACK, HAFLER TRIO, NURSE WITH WOUND... contemporary examples of shared sounds could include SVARTE GREINER, MACHINEFABRIEK, CHRIS WATSON, STILLUPSTEYPA, IRR.APP.(EXT.) and WOUTER VAN VELDHOVEN.
DREKKA has undertaken over a dozen European excursions since 2002, including ITALY in 2010/2011/2012 and over fifty shows in the NETHERLANDS and ICELAND alone.
Previous tours have included tourmates JESSICA BAILIFF (US, Kranky/Morc), BESOIN DEAD (France, Mon Cul), DYLAN ETTINGER (US, Not Not Fun/Night People), IN GOWAN RING (US, World Serpent/Bluesanct), LOVESLIESCRUSHING (Projekt), ANNELIES MONSERE (Belgium, Auetic/Bluesanct), RIVULETS (US, Important/Chairkickers), STONE BREATH (US, Dark Holler/Camera Obscura), and VOLLMAR (US, St. Ives/Bluesanct); with all of whom DREKKA also played ambient guitar/misc. instruments/vocals on stage."
Duet for Theremin & Lap Steel
"The name of this Atlanta duo implies a proper classical recital, a rigid formality.
But Scott Burland (theremin) and Frank Schultz (lap steel) don't do scripted, improvising not so much distinct sounds as evolving eddies of sound, vapors of tones that develop and transform gracefully.
Hypnotic pulses and dreamy drones weave together to form a kaleidoscope of sounds and moods, ambient clouds and swooning collages that are as much about texture as they are timbre, like a long-lost soundtrack to a deep-sea documentary."
"NOON has existed in various forms since 2008. A combination of weighty drone and spastic noise produced by an array of analog and digital inputs, the sound emanating from this mutant beast traverses both aural and tactile registers - the body being its terrain of choice.
Drawing unholy energy from the likes of Throbbing Gristle and DNA, NOON was formed by Erik in collaboration with Kray Korvela as a somewhat more structured extension of previous improvisational work by the two. This duo has collaborated to varying extents with Matt Shuff (DBH), Clarke Joyner (Kama Kama), Michael Anderson (Drekka), Chris Barth (Impossible Shapes, Normanoak, & Glitter Brains), and various members of Bloomington's Improvised Music Project (IMP).
Temporarily transplanted from Bloomington, IN to Atlanta, NOON is currently a solo project involving discordant jungle beats, ham-fisted guitar, industrial samples, tape adapter manipulation, a soft-bundled contact mic, scattered cymbals, and buried vocals."
