Handmade 16mm films, including the films and slides of Whitney Biennial artist Luther Price

Presented by Film Love

During the film industry's move to digital formats and projection, the enduring and unique quality of 16mm film has become increasingly attractive to artists. In our first show at Eyedrum's new location, Film Love presents a visit from New England filmmaker Warren Cockerham, who brings a selection of current 16mm works from award-winning filmmakers based in the northeast. Handmade, intimate, visually dynamic, the exceptional films of The New England Home Movie Tour highlight the artisanal. Cockerham writes, "As the commercial film industry forces us to embrace digital moving images and the planned obsolescence of the means to produce and distribute those products, this film tour aims to share films that embrace the contemporary DIY strategies, politics, and aesthetics of an enduring, artisanal, and personal approach to filmmaking."

Specially projected at this event are the 35mm handmade slides by filmmaker Luther Price – a highlight of the 2012 Whitney Biennial. The program will also feature Price's "Inkblot" films. The Inkblots are original handmade 16mm films existing in one copy only. Sometimes handpainted - literally, the paint is on the film print and moves through the projector at screenings - the Inkblot films are meant to be experienced as unique with each projection.

The uniqueness and artisanal quality of the films are reflected in the tour itself. Traveling with over thirty 16mm prints and one hundred twenty different slides, Cockerham reconfigures the film program at each stop, insuring that the Atlanta edition of the New England Home Movies tour is a singular, collective screening experience.

Filmmakers include Rob Todd, Jodie Mack, Jonathan Schwartz, Jo Dery, Warren Cockerham, and Colin Brant. Program guest-curated by Warren Cockerham.
