Climbing PoeTree: Hurricane Season December 3, 2008
7:00PM - - -

Climbing PoeTree

Climbing PoeTree presents a multi-media two-woman show about unnatural disaster and a great shift in universal consciousness.

Alixa and Naima of Climbing PoeTree are coming to town with their highly anticipated 2-womyn show Hurricane Season: The Hidden Messages In Water, as part of a 50-city national tour that obliterates the boundaries between performance and activism.

open improv: Solid! December 4, 2008
9:00PM - - -
Price:  free
theme: Solid!

Long used by musicians, 'solid' is dense,
instantanteous communication because the
particles are so close, either airless or
virtually telepathic, no wait time, what need
for talk in a solid block? Instant on, the motor
runs constantly, all that's needed is engagement
for that miraculous spin into action Jackson.

Eyedrum's long-running Open Improv night occurs on the first Thursday of every month -- our monthly gathering for instrumentalists and improvisers of all stripes. Bring your instrument! Hosted by the indefatigable Robert Cheatham.

WPBA 30, Atlanta's PBS station, did a bit about Eyedrum's Improv Night a couple years ago for their "This Is Atlanta" show. Click for their description and the video itself (Windows Media, 2m40s).

Krampus night, w/Gutbucket & others December 5, 2008
9:00PM - - -
Price:  $8

"The story goes that the Krampus accompany St. Nikolaus and while St. Nikolaus rewards the good kids with treats and presents, the Krampus punish the bad kids by hitting them with brooms and chasing them. It is an old Austrian tradition that has spread to most of Europe. Basically, men get dresed up in hairy outfits and scary masks, run wildly around the town, and scare the living daylights out of both children and adults."

Join us in what will certainly become an Eyedrum Holiday Tradition! Come in costume! Sing Krampus Carols! Hear some good music!

GUTBUCKET

Destroying walls between art-rock, avant-squonk, and mathed-out prog, Gutbucket's through-composed charts enter a place of pure sound. The decade-old New York quartet is not only equally comfortable playing in front of 900 sweatily pogo-ing teenage skate-punks, a crowd of cosmic indie-psych freaks, or on an anarchist German art collective houseboat, but most importantly, their music fits right in. Called “stomprovisors” by the Village Voice, the band has spent the past 10 years injecting a shot of glorious spazmitude into the minimalist cool of the New York downtown scene.

The group attacks their music with the ferocity usually reserved for punk, and the humorous abstraction of art-rock, despite having earned their jazz bona fides. Though the band might seem rooted in the genre exploding of New York’s downtown (their 2001 debut, InsomniacsDream, was released on the Knitting Factory house imprint), their shift to louder sounds began with their controversially titled Dry Humping the American Dream (released in 2003 in Europe on the legendary Enja label and domestically in 2004 on Bang on a Can's acclaimed Cantaloupe label).

ZENTROPY

James Cotton - Bass
Davis Petterson - Drums & Percussion
Allen Welty-Green - Keys & Percussion

One day, a prog-geek keyboard guy decided he was tired of all the prog snobs and decided to try something different. Something with no rules. Something from the heart. So he found a sympatico bassist and drummer and dove right in. It's improv but is it jazz? It's spacey but is it jam? Decide for yourself.

se7en - opening December 10, 2008
7:30PM - - -

Se7en is an architectural experimentation in spacial enhancement. As a socially provocative installation, it asks each participant to evoke a parallelism between the perception of the individual and the perceived object based on the classification of seven vices. Each individual has been asked to construct an interpretation of their characteristic within given constraints that interacts with the human body on some level. These constraints allow the individual elements to have the ability to be reconfigured in order to adapt to the various environments as well as social demands.

RESPITE FROM THE COLD - warmth through soundscapes December 19, 2008
9:00PM - - -
Price:  $5
DRONES, AMBIENCE, SOOTHING PSYCHEDELIC SOUNDS, ETC.

local musicians whose music delves into the realm of drones and psychedelic soundscapes pool efforts to create a night of somber reflection, quiet contemplation...

do not mistake this for an ordinary music event. the goal is to have solace from the cold weather and to celebrate the season of bundling, cuddling, and partaking in warm beverages. bring blankets and pillows (some will be provided) and prepare for warmth in cozy climes and low lighting. this is meant to be ridiculously chill...

participating musicians:

Recompass - synthy droney elegance bubbly and divine

Tree Creature - synths and samples unite in celestial slumber

Magicicada - organs, manipulated percussion, drones, fuzz, a robot insect orchestra playing quietly to the empty tundra landscape

Dan Hole Pond - tapes and toy keyboards create a quiet chaos in the ether

DJ Chris Devoe - spinning ambient textures to smile to.

Lance Ledbetter - a pump organ installation, a warm blanket of sonic spectrums

Paul Harper and co. - drones, melodies, improvised ambience

we will go late. come have a nice cozy time with smiling faces and soothing winter anthems.

Insurgent Theatre December 29, 2008
9:00PM - - -
Price:  TBA

Paint the Town is the tale of an inspired revolutionary, the perfect family who loves her, and the man who slaughters that family in a wave of brutal terrorist strikes to set her free. It is a call to action for the super radical core of the creative class.

About Insurgent Theatre:

"We have been producing bad-ass DIY theatre in Milwaukee since 2003. Always independent local writers, directors and actors. Never compromising to the establishment. Insurgent's goal is nothing less than to take the future of theatrical production (from words, to actors, to audiences) out of the clumsy hands of obsolete bourgeois institutions, one production at a time. Since summer of 2007 we've started taking our shows on the road, touring like a punk band."
