theHENTproject - To Seize or Capture
6:30PM - - -
Price:  $8

The Hent Project, a new Atlanta-based, artist-driven collaborative art project, will present an inaugural evening of visual art, music, dance, film & artistic collaboration . Hent Project founder and director Merica May Jensen, a former professional dancer with the Atlanta Ballet, describes the new collaborative as “…an environment where artists come together in the creative process…so each artist works collaboratively with all the elements that go into making a total piece.”

Launched with a recent fundraising dinner highlighted by a dance performance on the roof of Atlanta’s King Plow Lofts, the Hent Project has brought together musicians, dancers, visual artists, spoken word artists, filmmakers and dramatists. The August 18 event, titled “To Seize or Capture,” will begin at 6:30 pm in two galleries devoted to visual art – photography, painting, interior modeling and installation. An 8:00 pm “showing” will feature modern, contemporary and hip hop dance, rap, R&B vocals, poetry, spoken word, and film. The evening will feature, among others:

• a new cinematography technology – “jitter” – from Railroad Earth’s Neil Fried
• up and coming dance choreographer James Pruitt
• melting R&B vocalist Ashaya Robinson
• spoken word artist Jon Good

The $8 ticket includes a post-performance discussion with the artists and a dance party. Says Jensen, “The ticket price is a great bargain to be part of some great work, and Eyedrum is a perfect venue.”

‘The Hent Project is about bringing the artistic community together,” says Jensen. “An artist in a large organization can do beautiful work, but has little artistic license. The Hent Project is about being truly a part of the creative process.” Jensen, currently a student at Georgia Tech, says the company “…is about fusing different art forms. Talented artists work themselves into niches. With the Hent Project, we want to bridge different art forms in a way that’s engaging, accessible, and truly exciting.”

Encounters: an installation exploring the element of time.

The entire installation echoes the juxtaposition of the physical entities of ice and water with traditional geometrical patterns on an acrylic base as a backdrop to superimpose a large-scale video projection of fire and flame. The multi-faceted environment, using special lighting and sound tchniques, creates a dialog between time and space as being ephemeral and in constant flux within a complex narrative that is very personal.
