Book I of The Boviniad (The Injection) appeared in spring of 2011. Jerpe is a poet and game designer.

2012 XWA: John Harkey

A postdoctoral fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology, John Harkey discusses and recites verse by Objectivist poet Lorine Niedecker (1903–1970).

Harkey grew up in Georgia and Tennessee. He recently received his PhD in English from the CUNY Graduate Center after completing a dissertation on “small poetry” in twentieth-century writing, a study devoted principally to Lorine Niedecker, George Oppen, Susan Howe, and the philosophy of Charles S. Peirce.

Harkey operates Creature Press, a vehicle for hand-made chapbooks, and some of his writing can be found in Cold Front Magazine, The Marsh Hawk Review, EOAGH, We Are So Happy to Know Something, and 2nd Ave Poetry.

He is currently stationed at Georgia Tech, where he teaches composition, rhetoric, and literature as a Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow.

Poet Laura Carter, whose chapbooks include Situations and Midheaven Leo, shares her work.

Carter lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where she is pursuing a PhD in literary studies. She has published five chapbooks, including At the Pulse and The Terrarium of the Frame.

Members of the Atlanta Poets Group engage in their “disjunctive and disruptive linguistic practices.”

Since 1997, the Atlanta Poets Group has been a shifting yet recurrent heterogeneous grouping of both (split)individual and collaboramerged semi-intentional language workers operating under the sign of poetry. The APG meets in salon-like fashion on Wednesday evenings and gives semi-regular public performances around the Atlanta area.

2012 XWA: Madeleine St. Romain

Rabbit Tales librettist and multidisciplinary artist Madeleine St. Romain performs some of her recent polyphonic material.

St.Romain is a writer and multidisciplinary artist. She participated in the Atlanta Opera's 24-Hour Opera Project with composer Jonathan Stinson in January 2012. In 2011, she was commissioned by the Atlanta Opera to write the libretto Rabbit Tales with composer Nicole Chamberlain. With composer Robert Boury, she has written three family operas: Cedar Tree and River Water, Grandmother Spider Steals the Sun, and Seastruck.

Her visual art has been shown at Eyedrum, Radial Art Space, and the Dalton Gallery.

2012 XWA: Nikita Gale

This event occurs at The Seen Gallery, 415 Church Street, Decatur, Georgia, 30030.

Yale graduate and self-taught conceptual artist Nikita Gale—dubbed a “Superstar of Southern Art” by The Oxford American—discusses her work, which often incorporates text.

Based in Atlanta, Gale holds a BA in Anthropology (archaeological studies) from Yale University and has exhibited in numerous shows in Atlanta, Santa Fe, and New York city. She was an artist-in-residence at The Center for Photography at Woodstock in Woodstock, New York in 2011 and is currently in the Studio Artist Program at The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center.

In 2012, Gale was listed as #4 in Oxford American's "100 Under 100: Superstars of Southern Art" issue. She currently serves on the board of directors for the nonprofit Atlanta-based arts publication BurnAway.
