Jonida Beqo, the slam poet also known as Gypsee Yo, and Barnstormers, an alternative country band out of Huntsville, Al., are to perform.
They appear in conjunction with the release of Beqo's newest album "DUST BLOOD LOVE." Powerful, yet tender, Gypsee Yo's poetry is both engaging and relevant. She weaves her dichotomy of cultures and lifestyles into a tapestry of words. Her poetry is the juxtaposition of life in Albania throughout the Balkan conflicts of the 1990s and life in the modern rural and suburban American South.
JONIDA BEQO, a.k.a. GYPSEE YO, is a native of Albania, currently residing in Atlanta, GA. She is a performance artist whose work aims to blur the lines between genres. Her background includes successful projects in theatre, dance, storytelling, and an extensive spoken word and slam poetry resume. She is the reigning Southern Queen of Slam, Atlanta's Slam Champion, a three time National Poetry Slam semi-finalist, a National Poetry Slam final stage feature, and ranked second in the world in the Women of the World Poetry Slam.
BARNSTORMERS experiment with sound and poetry in a post-rock environment with a southern accent.
