Portland, OR band Ghost to Falco is lush and aggressive and sometimes dreamy with brilliant lyrics, insightful but not overdone. Uncommon and a struggle to pinpoint...too bizarre to label pop and too pop to be considered noise. both comforting and challenging.
"heck, in the short time we've had Like This Forever in stock, in-store play has already been stirring up many, many queries with at least one purchased each time it's spun. Stormy waves of electric guitar distortion and reedy woodwinds crash upone one another, then melt into clear smooth bell chimes. Horns and piano also enter the fray that ebbs and flows around mainman Eric Crespo's emotive vocals..." - Aquarius Records, San Fransisco
Recompas, native to these parts, are an impressive ensemble indeed, always amazing with an array of electronic devices (many custom built by frontman Travis Thatcher of Judi Chicago fame) that blip, squiggle and drone, and often accompanied by throbbing live percussion and/or treated saxaphone. arpeggios, drones, rich overlapping melodies and a tasteful sense of dynamics make this band essential listening...especially for those who just can't believe that you have to be a rock n' roll band in order to rock.
Dan Hole Pond from Athens, GA is a one-man outfit that utilizes small keyboards, tapes, and samples to create some seriously interesting psychedelic droney goodness. At times melancholic and instrospective, other times joyous and rambunctious, always a mental journey for all lucky enough to check it out.
