Jamele Wright Presents: Self-determination Comparing Uli and Graffiti Art
In Association with SSA Smoke School of Art:
This educational series installment compares and contrasts the art of Uli, indigenous to the Igbo people of Nigeria, with graffiti art of the 1970s and 1980s. Similarities when it comes to the individual intent and mark will be shown along with the lineage of African creativity and the ability to personalize that uniqueness. Corresponding agencies will be discussed in the midst of Uli and younger generations hundreds of years later that express and exert themselves in a society intent on suppressing their individuality and oppressing them mentally and financially.
