music Brian Graiser Solo Percussion
8:00PM - - - Price: $7, $5 for Students
For concertgoers who may be unfamiliar with the “dark side” of contemporary solo percussion, Brian Graiser’s public debut recital at Eyedrum will serve as either a welcome introduction or a vicious slap in the face. Gone, gone are the days of reliable backbeats and hi-hat on two and four, replaced for an evening by the consuming sounds of an extended-range four-octave vibraphone melding with stereophonic electronic accompaniment.
Besides highlighting works that involve live or prerecorded electronics, this concert will dive fully into the world of solo vibraphone, featuring a breadth of repertoire ranging from bold transcriptions of Debussy and Ravel to a number of new commissions by modern composers. Capping off the event will be the world premiere of Canadian composer Christien LeDroit’s Serenity, Shattered for four-octave vibraphone and electronics; other recent commissions to be performed include Halim El-Dabh’s Sailing Wind, Peter Olsen’s Inner Structure, and more.
Tickets will be sold at the door; prices are $7 for adults and $5 for children, students, and seniors.
