"These short films start a necessary conversation" --Creative Loafing

The Community-Based Media Initiative at GSU presents

Community Watch

a showcase of six short documentaries produced in collaboration with vibrant Atlanta community voices

This benefit screening includes a raffle of enticing door prizes with proceeds benefiting
STAND UP FOR KIDS, a nationally recognized group that advocates for homeless and street kids.

Georgia State University’s Community-Based Media Initiative produces short documentaries with and about Atlanta communities. Moving off the beaten path, these shorts range from hard-hitting to moving, and open up dialogue and awareness of the diversity of the city. Among the subjects explored in these videos:

- One Performer. $250,000 raised for HIV charity. See how the "lips, hips, and saggy tits" of Mary Edith Pitts are transforming the gay Atlanta Community.

- 13 kids die on the street everyday and Atlanta is not immune from this tragedy. Stand Up for Kids hits the street to make a difference!

- Witness activists combat the epidemic of child sex trafficking in Atlanta, and their heroic impact on this modern day slavery.

- Two men, playing the same sport, in the same city, at the same time, but their paths will never cross. Is Soccer truly a Universal Language?

- Ashneel lives his life with the ideas of parkour to guide him - the most efficient way to get from point A to point B, in movement and life - Parkour!

- The sassy girls of Sequoya participate in an after school program that enables them to express themselves through theatrical performance.
